Having met with numerous creative agencies, it is striking to observe that many are centered around the same undifferentiated positioning and approach. Often vague and focussed on latest trends, they use marketing jargon specific to the industry. The offering often lacks substance, making it difficult to understand what the agency is actually selling and whether what they propose is suitable for the client's needs.

Moreover, the entrepreneurs leading these agencies do not always have a focus on business development. Preoccupied with their clients, most of them are specialists who created their agency out of a passion for their field (communications, advertising, design, digital, etc.). They rely more on their network than on a real Newbiz strategy to grow their business. To survive, it is essential to properly structure business development, clearly define the agency brand, knowing how to prospect, and being well-prepared to win pitches.
